5 Wedding Details That Are So Brooklyn

Brooklyn: the new Manhattan. Whether you’re a resident of this storied borough, a visitor, or someone who loves Brooklyn style but lives far from the shores of New York, there are endless ways to incorporate a Brooklyn-vibe into your wedding. Here are five of our favorite details:

1. The Floral Bike

One of the trademarks of the Brooklyn lifestyle is the fixed-gear bicycle, which is the perfect blend of stylish, healthy, and environmentally-friendly. This floral-embellished bicycle from a Bride & Blossom wedding held at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a great way to set the mood for your guests upon arrival.

2. Mason Jars

Traditionally used for pickles and preserves, mason jars are one of the easiest ways to conjure up a Brooklynite vibe. Use them for cocktails, wedding favors (filled with candles, local honey, artisanal sea salt, or just about anything else you can dream up!), centerpieces, or to keep your outdoor chair pieces looking fresh in hot weather, as shown here at Red Hook’s iconic Liberty Warehouse.

3. The #Hashtag Display

If there’s one thing Brooklyn does better than almost anywhere else, it’s social media. Follow our tips for tastefully incorporating social media into your wedding and come up with a unique hashtag that celebrates your love story. We love this one from a Bride & Blossom wedding at Tribeca Rooftop. While it didn’t take place *in* Brooklyn, the sentiment of merging cultures stays true to the soul of one of America’s most beloved melting pots.

4. A Vintage or Vintage-Inspired Dress

Everything old really is new again, especially when it comes to fashion. NY-based designer Stone Fox Bride caters specifically to hip, fashion-forward brides who want something that’s a little bit edgy, a little bit vintage, and totally unique. We especially love how perfect their dresses look with floral crowns!

5. Dogs

With Park Slope, Prospect Park, and so many other expanses of greenery in the neighborhood, it’s no surprise that Brooklyn residents are rarely seen without their dogs. The Brooklyn vibe is all about being relaxed and inclusive, so talk to your florist about making a custom flower wreath for your pooch, and let them follow you down the aisle, or at least join in the post-ceremony celebration — especially if it’s outdoors!
