Jacqueline & Gary: Modern Enchantment at Trump SoHo

Jacqueline and Gary were married in June in a beautiful ceremony and reception at Trump SoHo in Manhattan.

Running doesn’t top Gary’s list of favorite physical activities. So when he asked Jacqueline to put in a couple of miles after work in Central Park, she thought something was up. Her suspicion grew even more when Gary greeted her with a smile, like he was actually looking forward to their evening run. Taken by excitement, Jacqueline patted him down while his back was turned, looking for a ring box. She found nothing and felt a little silly. “I can’t believe you patted me down!” Gary joked the entire cab ride to the park.

After about a half mile, Gary said he was tired and suggested they cut through Sheep Meadow. It was nearing sundown and the park was completely empty. As they walked, Gary started to get emotional. He then got down on one knee and proposed to Jacqueline. Turns out, he had the ring all along. Anticipating a “pat down,” he took the ring out of the box and slipped it in a pocket for safekeeping! Just after she said yes, security showed up ordering them to leave because the park was closing. There was no ruining this moment though. Jacqueline recalls, “It was so beautifully perfect. We felt like we had the whole city all to ourselves!”

From their very first date, Jacqueline and Gary’s relationship has been one built on an unwavering bond. They met during Jacqueline’s first year of law school when she was an intern at Gary’s company. Once her internship ended, he asked her out. Their first date was going wonderfully until Gary got sick and ended up going to the hospital. Jacqueline stayed with him the entire night. “We’ve been inseparable ever since,” said Jacqueline “Gary is the ultimate partner and teammate.”

Their supportive partnership was especially helpful when it came time to plan the wedding. From the venue to the décor, Jacqueline and Gary worked together through the whole decision-making process.

It’s not often that we hear of a groom picking out the “perfect dress” for his bride. “Gary actually came across the Ines di Santo “Morning” gown online and said it was meant to be the one that I would wear.” Jacqueline remembers, “I wasn’t completely sold on the look, but scheduled an appointment with Bridal Reflections during the designer’s trunk show and promised to try it on.” Jacqueline put Gary’s pick on first, and much to her surprise, she loved it. “The all-over lace and unique design was so beautiful. The gown made me feel like a bride whereas the others just felt like pretty white dresses.”

A handful of venues met the couple’s criteria of a Manhattan wedding with amazing views of the city. But it was Trump SoHo that appealed to their vision of a formal affair in a classically modern setting. “We liked the modern feel of the hotel and that we could host all our wedding events in one place. Our out-of-town guests could stay there too,” Jacqueline said. “But the real seller was the event space, SoHi, on the 46th floor. It has floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides offering incredible views of the city. The space is breathtaking and gives the feeling of being outside without worrying about the weather.“

Flowers were the one detail for which Jacqueline and Gary had different ideas. She wanted a color while he wanted all white. “We compromised and had colored flowers for the ceremony and white for the reception.”

The entire affair radiated modern romance. In front of family and friends, the couple exchanged vows under a stunning chuppah that expressed Jacqueline’s wish for décor evoking a warm and intimate ambiance. Flowers were arranged in an asymmetrical design, showcasing a lush blend of peonies and roses in shades of coral, peach, fuchsia, and orange. An enchanted display of candles lined the aisle. The bride carried an exquisite bouquet of orchids, roses, peonies, and ranunculus in peach and coral tones.

Guests gathered for a post-ceremony cocktail hour at SoHi where they began celebrations while gazing out over Manhattan. Afterward, everyone headed to the hotel’s ballroom for the reception. The atmosphere emanated refined elegance with a contemporary feel. Tables were adorned with high centerpieces displaying fresh arrangements of white calla lilies, orchids, tulips, hydrangea, and roses in beautiful glass vases. The blooms were complemented by the glow of candlelight, capturing a soft and romantic mood.

Jacqueline shared her favorite moments from her wedding. “I was so nervous right before the ceremony. But my parents calmed me down and once I saw Gary and felt the warmth of the room, I was overcome with a sense of ease and happiness!” She was very close to her grandfather and honored him throughout the day. “My grandfather’s pocket watch was attached to my bouquet. That meant a lot because I gave it to him as a gift. He would say that whenever we were apart, he would hold it and pretend we were holding hands.” His favorite singer, Louis Armstrong, was incorporated into the music program. And they made sure to include their handsome French bulldog, Thomas, in the festivities. “We loved watching Thomas walk down the aisle and having him in our wedding photos!”

Jacqueline had been looking forward to relaxing and having fun on the dance floor. “I’ll always remember our first dance and dancing with my father. They were a culmination of some, but not enough classes I had taken with the both of them.”

Judging from the marvelous photo of the couple’s first dance, she had absolutely nothing to worry about!
