Featured Bride Madalyn On Her Breathtaking Chuppah
We love when a bride puts a unique spin on wedding traditions. Symbolizing the home of the soon-to-be newlyweds, the chuppah is one of the most important aspects of the Jewish wedding ceremony. It also lets the bride be creative with décor, and express their personality and style. This week, we talked with our featured bride Madalyn about her breathtaking Lucite and suspended floral chuppah.
Part 3: Ceremony
When guests began arriving at Guastavino’s for Madalyn and Jon’s wedding, New York City was in the midst of its first snowfall of the season. Everyone was more than happy to take cover inside the warm, picturesque venue, but what they were about to see would exceed all expectations.
With its Catalan vaulted ceiling and towering arches, Guastavino’s already has drama and spectacle built into its architectural fabric. After looking at previous Guastavino’s weddings with her mother, Madalyn knew she wanted the décor to both harmonize with the space while expressing her modern sensibility. The design process behind the ceremony’s main feature, the chuppah, was gradual.
Bride & Blossom’s Director of Operations Elianna Phelps worked closely with the bride on décor and styling. “The chuppah went through several iterations. Madalyn had a general vision for the style, and we worked together to fine tune the details. She wanted something unique, contemporary, and chic, which could also be transformed and incorporated into the reception as well.”
What Madalyn, Jon and the Bride & Blossom team settled on was a gorgeous 360 degree Lucite chuppah with suspended lavender and white roses inside the structure and suspended from the top. “We were completely blown away when we walked into the room and saw the arrangement of lavender and white roses with little globes hanging from the ceiling above the chuppah,” says Madalyn. Each post displayed hanging roses that descended to the base, which was decorated with luminous candles and a scattering of flower petals. “All of it tied together so perfectly and it looked like the roses were trickling down into the Lucite! The arrangement softened the space while complementing the interesting architectural design,” Madalyn recalls.
After walking down the candlelit aisle, the bride took center stage, where the beauty of her Carolina Hererra gown came into full view. The delicate floral detail of her ensemble was enhanced by the stunning aura of blossoms all around.
The ceremony was beautiful and full of sentiment. The couple honored Madalyn’s grandfather by wrapping themselves in his tallis. After the vows were exchanged, the groom performed the custom of breaking the glass. Guests looked on with excitement as the Madalyn and Jon had their first kiss as husband and wife.
Next week presents Part 4: Reception, Card Table, and Dance Floor where Madalyn talks about the final chapter in her Real BB Wedding Story.
