Sophia & Sam: Understated Glamour at Tribeca 360
We are excited to introduce Sophia, Bride & Blossom’s featured bride for April! Sophia and Samuel said “I do” on a beautiful September day in a gorgeous ceremony and reception at Tribeca 360. Here is the first chapter of their wedding story.
Sophia was enjoying drinks with friends on a Thursday evening. After catching up over a few rounds, she stepped away from the group to sit down and check the time on her phone. Her concern about the late hour and going to work in the morning must have been apparent because just seconds later a complete stranger approached and said, “Hey there! Why do you look so bored?” After introducing himself as Sam, he offered to buy Sophia a drink and introduce her to his friends. Once they got to the table, Sophia turned to Sam laughing and said, “Actually… these are all MY friends!”
Sophia and Sam hit it off immediately. On their first date, they spent an entire day walking around the city, eating, shopping, and just getting to know each other. When a relationship starts off so effortlessly perfect, pulling off a surprise proposal can be a bit tricky. Marriage feels in the cards from the start. Sophia looks back, “Our engagement was actually a complete surprise because I didn’t think it would happen that soon! And Sam proposed on the street right by the restaurant where we had our first date, which made the moment feel all the more special.”
The couple had a year to plan their wedding and it was a team effort from the beginning. They started looking at locations and were drawn to the stylish, low-key vibe of New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood. With its modern and minimalist design and panoramic view of Manhattan and the Hudson River, Tribeca 360 had everything Sophia and Sam wanted in a wedding venue. “Tribeca 360 matched our personal styles so well,” recalls Sophia. “We loved the amazing views. And I was having a lot of friends and family come in from out of town so I didn’t wanted them to feel like they were just going to another hotel wedding, but a wedding where they could see New York City at the same time.”
Sophia and Sam each had their own ideas about décor and styling and worked together to find a balance that reflected their style and personality as a couple. “Typically, the bride makes all the decisions that relate to wedding décor and aesthetics. But Sam’s background is in fashion and design and he played a huge role in creating the ultimate look of our wedding,” says Sophia. “We had a clear vision to keep our wedding representative of us. I wanted it to be glamorous, elegant, and somewhat formal, while Sam’s style is more chic and understated. We were able to fuse our two styles together in a very complementary and unique way. And, we also wanted the decor to have a very contemporary look and feel.”
Sophia and Sam’s wedding colors combined a classic white palette with modern accents of black and silver. “We wanted our flowers to be stunning, but not over the top,” says Sophia. Florals took form in crisp white phalaenopsis orchids and roses with hints of pale pink and purple. Reception décor featured a gorgeous mix of high and low arrangements highlighted by a jaw-dropping floral chandelier over the dance floor. “The chandelier was really beautiful and personal, and enhanced the rest of our aesthetic,” Sophia remembers.
Stay tuned next week for Part 2: Gown and Personals when Sophia talks about her showstopping Galia Lahav dress and the personal touches that brought meaning to her wedding day.
