Featured Bride Kate on Her Gorgeous Liz Martinez Dress and Personal Touches

 

After the ring is slipped on, one of the first things a bride-to-be thinks about is what she’s going to wear down the aisle. And when you have a specific vision of how it will look, finding the perfect dress can take some time and effort. Just ask Kate, our featured bride for May. “I was looking for a design with floral appliqué and lace. An open back was important as well. I had tried on so many dresses and none of them were what I hoped for. That is until I went to Spina Bride. It was like stepping into a wedding gown boutique set within a fairytale,” she remembers.

 

 

 

Tucked away on MacDougal Street in the West Village, Spina Bride offers a curated selection of wedding dresses from designers around the world. Kate recalls her experience there. “My appointment was with Giselle. She spent a great deal of time discussing fashion elements in depth, and then pulled pieces that were so much more in alignment with the fabrics I loved.” By the end of the session, Kate had narrowed down her choices between two dresses by Israeli designer Liz Martinez.

 

 

Ultimately, the bride-to-be went with a breathtaking gown of a sheer ivory fabric embellished with exquisite floral detailing. Featuring capped sleeves, the fitted silhouette gave way to an ethereal tulle skirt. “I knew that I had found ‘the one’ when I kept wanting to put the dress back on,” Kate says looking back.

 

 

 

 

Kate accessorized her gown with a stunning cathedral length veil by Daphne Newman. “I spent a lot of time working with Daphne. She is amazing! We wanted to make sure the veil was understated so it complemented rather than competed with the intricate details of my dress.” She completed her wedding day look with striking Aquazurra heels. And for the reception, Kate changed into a pretty silver and gold headpiece by Naturae Design with floral accents.

 

 

 

 

The bride’s flair for bohemian meets English garden was beautifully expressed in a showstopping bouquet featuring ivory and white roses, sweet peas, tweedia, heather, veronica, lace flower, wine hued ranunculus and hellebore, and purple scabiosas paired with lush greenery. Wearing dresses by Jenny Yoo in soft, neutral shades, her bridesmaids carried complimenting bouquets featuring quicksand roses, blush ranunculus, white tweedia and freesia with greenery accents. The bridal party hair accessories included delicate flower crowns made of white roses, baby’s breath, and seeded eucalyptus.

 

 

We’d be remiss at this point not to mention the groom’s handsome attire. Chase looked most dapper in a tuxedo by Alan David Custom matched with a blush ranunculus boutonniere.

 

 

 

From the attire to the décor, the romantic-at-heart couple incorporated details that were personal and heartfelt. Even the stationery brought to mind those handwritten notes that Kate and Chase left each other during their courtship. Showcasing the captivating art and calligraphy of Brianna Nieman of Lichen Ink, letterpress invitations by Lion in the Sun in Brooklyn were printed on ivory handmade paper decorated with sage green ribbon and wax seal stamping with a one-of-a-kind flower design.
