Sara & Mitch’s Summer Fun Reception

 

Guests gathered for cocktail hour to raise the first of many toasts to newlyweds Sara & Mitch. Then everyone headed to The Foundry’s courtyard for an unforgettable evening of revelry. Here, featured bride Sara shares the final chapter in her Real BB Wedding story.

From the very start, there was a sense that Sara and Mitch intended their reception to be an occasion for everyone to cut-loose and have fun. Sara looks back and says, “There were so many details we included that meant a lot to us. Music was a big one. The music that Mitch and I and our wedding party walked into was symphony versions of pop-punk songs we love, but only a handful of people probably recognized.”

 

 

The décor reflected a festive summer mood. The Foundry’s ivy lined courtyard was laid out in long tables, each fitted with a white cloth runner, low centerpieces, and gilded chairs. Flowers included various roses, dahlias, nigellas, Queen Anne’s lace and wax flowers in shades of light pink, ivory, red, and white with lush greenery accents in mercury gold vessels. Radiating natural romance, the scene brought to mind an elegant garden picnic.

 

 

 

Sara put her graphic design skills to good use, designing the menus, place cards, and sweet “Mr.” and “Mrs.” chair signs. “I really enjoyed creating the little details that brought my entire vision together, from the fonts used to the way the colors and prints played off of each other.” The creative/DIY trait must be genetic. “My Dad made the table numbers and bases of the champagne flutes out of wood. He enjoys wood-working and it was a way for him to make his own special contribution to the day.”

 

 

 

Everyone knows good food and drinks are essentials to any great party. Blue Smoke provided a menu of delicious barbecue inspired fare. “We loved Blue Smoke prior to knowing it was on The Foundry’s recommended vendor list,” Sara says. “And the whiskey used in Mitch’s signature cocktail was his favorite smoked whiskey from the restaurant.”

 

 

Sara and Mitch were doing this wedding thing their own way right down to dessert. “We both like ice cream way more than cake. When we lived in the West Village, we discovered Van Leeuwens and it became one of our favorite places.” After dinner, a Van Leeuwens ice cream truck rolled up and served guests frosty treats all night long. Sara looks back and says, “It seemed like the perfect ending to our non-traditional wedding.”
