Gorgeous Floral Wedding Invitation Ideas
When it comes to inspiration, flowers can be incorporated into just about every element of your wedding including stationery. And nothing announces a romantic event like blossoming invitations. What is so great about about floral motifs is that they can be used to compliment any wedding style ranging from refined luxury to whimsical garden.
We know that couples in the midst of planning their wedding right now are being faced with decisions like never before. Our hearts go out to each and every one of you. For many, setting a date is up in the air. Some are deciding to scale back with a smaller, socially distanced gathering while others are getting married now and planning to hold a reception with friends and family once large get-togethers are safe again. Then there are those who are not giving up on their dream wedding and have chosen to wait until 2021 to say “I Do.” However you decide to handle the obstacles 2020 has dealt, your wedding day is a once in a lifetime occasion and deserves to be commemorated with a beautiful invite. From watercolor to letterpress, we rounded up gorgeous designs inspired by the allure of flowers.
Watercolor
We’d be remiss to talk about watercolor floral wedding invitations without shining a spotlight on Ceci Johnson, the artist and designer behind luxury stationery brand Ceci New York. Ceci’s sumptuous blossoms captivate the eye with their detail and color. She offers a myriad of designs like Violet Celine (pictured below) to use for save-the-dates and invites to day-of-details such as programs and guest name cards. For garden-inspired botanicals, we love the paper goods from Wouldn’t It Lovely. The delicate renderings look like watercolor illustrations from a vintage children’s book.
Letterpress
As you research wedding stationery, it’s good to become familiar with the various printing techniques. Letterpress is basically how printing got it start – text and image are stamped down onto the paper usually with ink leaving an impression that you can see and feel. Luxury stationery brand Bella Figura offers a variety of letterpress designs, which can be customized for any wedding style. The expressive font and blossoms of the Adina design epitomizes modern chic while the Underwood design radiates natural romanticism.
Gold Foil Stamping
Gold foil stamping is very similar to letterpress and uses a customized metal plate and metallic ink to leave an impression in the paper. The shimmering detail dazzles the eye and looks wonderful with floral motifs. We adore the timelessness of the Terrace design in gold matte featuring a budding stem and the clean beauty of the Corrine design in copper matte featuring simple font against a faint blossoming background.
Embossed
Embossing is another printing method giving wedding stationery that “WOW” factor. It’s similar to letterpress, but manipulates the paper by creating a three-dimensional design on the surface. Using embossed with a radiating rose motif (pictured below) highlights the intricate pattern and details of the flower’s petals.
Vellum
Transparent or semi-transparent paper is a great choice for those who want their big day paper goods to have a unique and polished look. Available in a variety of hues, opacities, and textures, vellum wedding stationery is usually accompanied with a custom wax seal – another detail to get excited about! Simply wrap the invitation in vellum to give a whispery hint of the design and text underneath. For a richer impression, have the floral illustration printed directly onto paper.
Lasercut
Producing complex patterns and shapes, lasercut achieves unmatched detail and and precision compared to other methods. Lasercut works especially well with floral motifs, allowing for every perfect petal and leaf to unfold within the design. Invitations By Dawn offers an assortment of striking lasercut invitations ranging from the luxurious Blossoming Wrap to the enchanted Woodland Window.
Bespoke/Custom Illustrated
The most memorable and heartfelt weddings are the ones in which the couples have taken great care to make the day feel like a true reflection of their love and personality. Bespoke invitations with your portrait, floral decor, and a few fun details sets a warm and welcoming tone from the start – guests will be counting down the days once the invitation arrives in their mailbox. Brooklyn based artist Amethyst WH creates bespoke, custom illustrated wedding paper goods to perfectly suit your event.
Given that we are experiencing a global pandemic, the thought of printing a wedding date on fancy paper may seem incredibly daunting. That being said, we hope these wedding stationery ideas put joy and excitement back into the process of planning. Wedding invitations are a tradition that we never want to see go away. After all, these meaningful pieces of paper are the first chapter in telling your love story.
