Heading into fall, a whole new array of seasonal flowers becomes available. There are many reasons for incorporating flowers at their peak bloom into wedding decor – they tend to be budget-friendly, sustainable, and at the height of beauty and freshness. Admittedly, 2020 has been an exceptionally challenging year for wedding planning. In the middle of a global pandemic, many couples are postponing, downsizing, and reconsidering their original visions. One way to stay positive is to focus on the details that are really important to you. And if flowers top the list, there are many creative approaches to styling and design that will help steer a new path toward fulfilling your wedding dreams. Meeting with clients, we make it a point to highlight seasonal flowers that bring high-impact to a bride’s bouquet or reception centerpiece. Here are statement wedding flower ideas for fall that guarantee to put the ‘WOW’ factor into your special day.

Chrysanthemums

Commonly referred to as mums, chrysanthemums can be traced back 2,000 years to China, where they were cherished as a symbol of the sun. In the language of flowers, they represent fidelity, cheerfulness, and optimism. Exuberant and playful, chrysanthemums create an eye-catching point of interest in wedding decor. The flower’s texture and intricate detail stand out even in the most lush and dynamic arrangements. Additional bonus: Chrysanthemums are available in a range of colors including white, yellow, green, orange, and burgundy, relatively inexpensive, and have a vase life for up to twenty five days.

Dahlias

Discovered in 1525 in Mexico where it is the national flower, the dahlia is regarded for its bold yet sophisticated character. What makes dahlias so appealing to floral designers is the bloom’s versatility. From classically timeless to modern chic to romantic garden, the flower, with its radiating petals, works with just about every wedding style. In the language of flowers, dahlias symbolize elegance, dignity, and a commitment that will last for eternity… everything you want nearby on your wedding day. Dahlias offer a variety of types to choose from, each uniquely beautiful from the next. Café au lait/dinner plate, cactus, and pompom dahlias make regular (and unforgettable!) appearances in our Real BB Weddings. Additional Bonus: Dahlias are available in a spectrum of colors ranging from white, yellow, and orange to pink, red, and purple, are budget-friendly, and have a vase life of four to six days.

Calla Lilly

Named after ‘calla,’ which means ‘beauty’ in Greek, the calla lily is known for its strong silhouette and refined character. Often depicted with the Virgin Mary, the flower is associated with purity, holiness, and faithfulness. Modern day couples are drawn to its reputation as a good luck charm for wedding bliss. Calla lilies grow in a wash of colors including crisp white, yellow, peach-pink, and deep purple. The flower’s clean, near sculptural form looks remarkable when placed side by side the voluminous, richly textured blossoms composing a bridal bouquet. Emphasized in centerpiece arrangements, the bloom’s signature shape and long, elegant stems add surprising height and dimension to the tablescape. Additional Bonus: Calla lilies are free of scent making them a great choice for people with allergies, and have a vase life of seven to ten days.
