Sammi & Steven: High Glamour at Tribeca Rooftop
Asked to describe her wedding style, Sammi unapologetically replied, “When I first met with Rachel (Bride & Blossom’s Founder), I described my aesthetic, in a nutshell, as being a little bit over-the-top.” Well, if there is a time to be GO BIG, it’s when you are getting married. From her gown to décor, Sammi’s personal style translated into a day that radiated high glamour from start to finish.
We are excited to introduce, Sammi, our BB Featured Bride for December. Sammi and Steven exchanged vows on a beautiful summer’s day at Tribeca Rooftop. Here, she shares the first chapter in their Real BB Wedding story.
Part 1: Proposal & Planning
Sammi and Steven met on a dating app in April 2016. “We planned to have drinks at The Wren in the Lower East Side,” she remembers. “It was a great first date, no awkward silences. Honestly, Steven was a breath of fresh air and unlike any guy I had ever been out with. He seemed so genuine from the start, and I loved that.” The couple now jokes that it took Sammi a little longer to realize how special their connection was. The bride recalls when she finally knew that Steven was the one. “I was on a girls’ trip in the Hamptons for the weekend. I decided to leave early because I missed him so much.” She continues, “There are many opposites to our personalities, which complement each other and ultimately make our relationship work. We challenge each other every day – we bring out the best in each other.”
Steven’s grandparents’ anniversary was coming up at the end of July 2019. He told Sammi that his family was planning a brunch party for them at Eataly, and she should dress up because they would be taking pictures. On their way to the restaurant, the couple walked through Madison Square Park. “We live near the park and often find ourselves strolling through after dinner or with our morning coffees – it holds a special place in our hearts,” the bride says. Just as they passed the fountain, Steven stopped, turned to Sammi, dropped down to one knee and proposed. “I was completely taken by surprise,” she says. “There was a photographer hiding who captured the whole thing!” After taking photos, Steven ordered an Uber to drive them to their next destination. “While the anniversary party at Eataly was clearly no longer in the plans, I was completely in the dark as to where we were going at this point. We arrived at La Pecora Bianca in Midtown East and he led me to a back private room where my parents from Florida, four best friends from college who all live out of state, a few of our local friends, and Steven’s parents and grandparents were all waiting to celebrate our engagement.” She finishes, “I had no idea he was planning anything like this! Other than my wedding, it was the best day of my life!”
Even though Sammi is from Florida where there is an endless selection of gorgeous oceanside venues, she was set on having her wedding in New York City. “This is where I met the love of my life – getting married here was very important to me,” she says. After countless hours spent researching venues online, the couple had their first walk through at Tribeca Rooftop. Housed at the top of a printing press building from the 1920s, Tribeca Rooftop was fully renovated into a chic industrial event space. “It had everything we were looking for,” the bride says. “The outdoor ceremony space appealed to the Florida girl in me. The reception room was absolutely gorgeous – I was drawn to the glass ceiling with chandeliers over the dance floor and grand staircase that would introduce us.”
The couple’s original wedding date was set for August 2020. As the Covid-19 situation grew more uncertain, they had to make a serious decision. “We initially rescheduled for May 2021, but with the day just a couple of months out, New York City still had tight restrictions on social events. Feeling uneasy and that we needed more time, we asked Tribeca Rooftop what our options were should we reschedule for August. They said the weekends were booked, but we could have our wedding on a Monday. Steven and I thought, ‘Why not?’ It would be late summer when people’s schedules are more flexible. We could have a big weekend long party. Afterward, everyone said, ‘You would never have known that your wedding was a Monday, we had so much fun.’ My friends even joked that we should start the hashtag #normalizemondayweddings.”
Sammi’s bold style was expressed in décor that felt glamorous and elegant at the time. “I always knew that I wanted a lot of flowers in pink, my favorite color.” To capture her vision, various shades were used throughout the ceremony and reception ranging from blush and pale pink to vibrant pink and magenta. “It’s just who I am,” the bride says with a laugh. “Flowers were the only part that I didn’t let Steven have any say in. Thankfully, he was cool with it.”
Stay tuned for next week when Sammi shares all the details about her custom Martina Liana wedding dress.
