Alexandra & Robert Marry in a Breathtaking Twilight Ceremony
“It’s not every day you get to have your very own private event at the New York Botanical Garden,” BB Featured Bride Alexandra says. “Robert and I wanted our guests to experience just how truly magical the venue is. Knowing that we wanted to get married outside as the sun was going down, the intimate and natural setting at The Stone Mill especially appealed to us.”
Here, Alexandra looks back on their breathtaking twilight ceremony before family and friends.
Part 3: Ceremony & Arrangements
Guests took their seats on the stone terrace at six o’clock just as the late September day was turning over into evening. Recalling an impressionist landscape painting, the scene before them presented a forest of trees speckled with seasonal flowers under a washed sky of lavender and pale blue with golden highlights. The babbling hum of the Bronx River could be heard in the distance. Alexandra describes how The Stone Mill’s surroundings inspired her ceremony vision. “I wanted to capture the feeling of a romantic night in nature under the stars. Because the backdrop is so stunning on its own, we decided to keep the design and styling simple, and use the colors of our flowers to convey emotion.”
Alexandra and Robert’s ceremony décor took shape in two elegant harlow stands topped with an expressive arrangement of lush blooms in a palette of cream, white, blush, peach, and yellow accentuated with cascading greenery. The floral recipe featured spray and garden roses, stargazer lilies, oncidium orchids, dahlias, stock, and ranunculuses paired with lemon leaf, plumosa, Italian ruscus, silver dollar and gunni eucalyptus, and sprengeri.
Twilight was breaking as Alexandra, escorted by her father, stepped to the aisle with her Pronovias Privée dress coming into full view. “I chose my veil because I originally thought we were going to have our wedding at a cathedral in Montreal. But I loved how dramatic it looked against the stone walkway,” she remembers. Father George officiated, leading the couple through a Catholic ceremony and exchanging of vows. Their first kiss as husband and wife was shared under a starry covered canopy.
For the couple who initially had their sights on a destination wedding, the decision to stay home and get married in New York City proved to be the right move. “The atmosphere felt comforting and spoke to our relationship and how it has evolved over the years,” Alexandra says. “Robert and I don’t need a lot to enjoy each other’s company.”
Stay tuned for next week when Alexandra shares the final chapter in her Real BB Wedding story.
