Ashley & Joe Celebrate With An Unforgettable White & Green Reception
From start to finish, a wedding at Wave Hill unfolds into a surprising experience at every turn. After making it official, Ashley and Joe joined guests for cocktail hour to enjoy hors d’oeuvres and kick off a first round of toasts. Then everyone headed to Wave Hill House to enjoy a beautiful and joyous evening of celebrations. Here, Featured Bride Ashley shares the final chapter in her Real BB Wedding story.
Part 4: Reception, Centerpieces, & Cake
Built in 1843 in the style of an English country residence, Wave Hill House was restored to its former glory in 2013 after undergoing a major renovation. The historic building is renowned for its architectural features, most notably the Armor Hall. As Ashely & Joe’s family and friends gathered into the spacious room marked by a soaring vaulted timber ceiling and arch windows, they were met with a captivating scene. Reception décor featured an array of centerpieces in a sophisticated white and green palette. Some tables were decorated with cluster arrangements featuring white hydrangea, lisianthus, dahlias, roses and ranunculus. Other tables were adorned with high centerpieces featuring curly willow, white hydrangea, gladiolus, delphinium, dendrobium orchids, bells of Ireland, bupleurum and greenery. The asymmetrical design and play between varying heights brought a sense of drama and movement over the tablescape.
Striking green colored glassware enhanced the natural blooms. “The room had green drapery on the windows,” Ashley recalls. “I felt like the colors and décor that we used complemented rather than distracted from the unique features that were already there.”
When asked if there was a story behind their beautiful cake, Ashley is quick to answer. “Yes. So Joe and I are not big dessert people. We knew we didn’t want the typical, over-the-top wedding cake. We wanted something really simple. I didn’t even know a naked cake existed, but I found a picture of one and sent it to my photographer to see if she knew of any bakeries that made them. She recommended Luckybird Bakery. At our tasting, we tried four flavors. They were all delicious. We couldn’t decide and ended up using all the flavors.” Guests were in for a sweet encore – favors were the famous Black & White Cookies from William Greenberg Desserts.
Ashley reminisces about how unforgettable the day was for her and Joe. “Wave Hill was a perfect fit for us. Joe is from Maryland, I am from New Jersey, and we met in New York. The venue had this feeling of not being in the city, yet you could still see its remarkable features like the Hudson River and George Washington Bridge. Joe loves the outdoors and his mother has the most beautiful garden at their house. So to be at this outdoor space surrounded by nature was really special for both of us. And of course being able to share it all with our loved ones is something we’ll cherish forever.”
Congratulations, Ashley & Joe! Thank you for sharing your Real BB Wedding story with us!
