Dayna & Matthew Dance The Night Away In A Party Inspired Reception
The evening’s festivities commenced with cocktail hour where guests enjoyed appetizers and the bride and groom’s signature drinks – Dayna’s was the champagne-based Day ‘n’ Nite and Matthew’s was the tequila based Matty Ocean. Soon after, the newlyweds made their reception entrance to Kanye West’s “Waves,” which established the tone for what kind of party this was going to be. Dayna looks back and says, “We had so much fun picking our wedding songs. Our choices were offbeat, but so true to us. Even our DJ – DJ Jon Blak who was absolutely amazing – was surprised by our selections.” Here, she shares the final chapter in their Real BB Wedding story.
Part 4: Reception, Centerpieces, & Cake
The vibrant color parade of the couple’s ceremony carried over to the reception décor seamlessly. “We continued the play on geometric shapes, which started with our circle arch. Our arrangements included squares and hexagons,” Dayna says. The dynamic tablescape popped with centerpieces featuring roses, ranunculus, marigolds, delphiniums, stock, agapanthus and eremus in purple, orange, fuchsia, yellow, coral, blue, and white with greenery set in cubed vases and terrariums.
The wedding stationery and signage underscored the couple’s bold and modern style. “Matthew is a product manager. He works with a lot of designers and has great taste. Choosing the colors, brush strokes, and font, he designed our menus and welcome sign, which was an especially big hit with everyone. The running joke with our friends is that Dayna and Matthew are always so dressed up compared to everyone else, they turn the simplest get-together into a major fashion event,” she says with a laugh.
Indeed, the couple looked runway ready as they took to the dance floor for their first spin as husband and wife. Guests looked on as they danced to “How Deep is Your Love” by the Bee Gees. “Stayin’ Alive” immediately followed with everyone storming the happy duo. “’It is a second-song tradition at all our friends’ weddings now,” Dayna adds. The rest of the night played out to a specially curated soundtrack that included “Come on Eileen,” “Maniac,” and “Levels.” “Matthew and I picked music that we had a back story to, or that reminded us of fond moments with our families and friends.” In place of traditional favors, guests were treated to cigars made on the spot by an expert roller from La Rosa Cubana Cigars. A photo booth captured snapshots for everyone to share and take home as keepsakes. And let’s not forget about the wedding cake. Looking like an abstract work of art, the dessert featured dazzling watercolor brushstrokes accented with a vibrant sugar bloom. Dayna finishes, “Our last song of the night was Michael Jackson’s ‘Wanna Be Starting Something.’ An all-time classic that not only symbolized the start of our new life together, but also got everyone’s vibe back up before heading to the after-party!”
In a day filled with a series of once-in-a-lifetime moments, we asked Dayna if any memories stood out. “Honestly, everything was just the best and we had the most amazing time ever. From getting ready with my mom and bridesmaids to the first look with Matthew to the songs that played during our ceremony, wedding vows and reception, the day was filled with joy from start to finish.”
