Floral Moments on Film
Sometimes it’s best to set aside the bridal blogs and search for inspiration in anther medium. Today, we take a look at six films that are sure to jump-start your floral imagination…
Emma
Gwyneth Paltrow stars as coy and quick-witted matchmaker Emma Woodhouse in this 1996 adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel. From start to finish, the film shows off the glorious gardens of the British countryside, leading up to a fantastic floral finale for the wedding of Emma and John.
The Great Gatsby
When we asked our Creative Director, Lindsay Saltz, what inspiration she draws from cinema, Great Gatsby came to mind immediately. “After that movie was made, brides were crazy for the ‘Gatsby-themed’ wedding and we drew a lot of inspiration pics from this scene. It’s just an abundance of beautiful flowers and the way they did it was pure perfection. I personally don’t love orchids but that scene made me want to!”
Wonderwall
Jane Birkin stars as Penny Lane in this psychedelic 60’s dreamscape by first-time director Joe Massot, accompanied by an original soundtrack by George Harrison. While the film saw little commercial success, the imagery of Miss Birkin decked out in wildflowers is priceless.
Big Fish
Tim Burton’s dreamy and tender fantasy film is brimming with romance, heartbreak, and imagination. Never have you ever seen quite so many daffodils!
Twilight: Breaking Dawn
Whether you hate to love or love to hate it – with such a stunning floral ceiling, ethereal archway, and lush greens lining the aisle, there’s no denying Bella and Edward had themselves one glorious wedding ceremony.
American Beauty
The breathtaking bed of red rose petals in Sam Mendes’ legendary film takes sexy florals to a new level with an image viewers will never forget.
The Wizard of Oz
Last but not least, the timeless classic that transformed fantasy filmmaking forever. From Munchkinland to The Emerald City to the Wicked Witch’s poppies, this film is brimming with whimsical floral imagery.
