For many of our brides, the wedding bouquet is the defining element that inspires the rest of their floral decor. It is no secret then that we love designing handheld arrangements – not only essential from a planning standpoint, they are a deeply symbolic expression of a woman’s style and personality. And for this reason, it should appear as though she is carrying the arrangement, not the other way around.

Choosing blooms that make an impression while accentuating a bride’s ensemble instead of distracting from it can be challenging. At this point, we’d like to turn the conversation to the long-stemmed wedding bouquet. What’s so exciting (and surprising!) about the featured designs is how they read as dramatic but not overly bold, polished but not overly restrained. Read on for long-stemmed wedding bouquet ideas for the classic bride.

Keep the Floral Recipe Simple

We’ve all seen floor-skimming bouquets bursting with every flower in the garden in perfectly curated magazine editorials or standing out on our Instagram feed. While stunning to the eye, these versions, in real life, are cumbersome to hold and can overpower a dress. Prevent being overshadowed walking down the aisle by sticking to a floral recipe of one to three types of flowers. For example, long-stemmed calla lilies bouquets take simplicity to the extreme, casting a captivating silhouette of poise and grace.

For the bridesmaids, petite arrangements of white blanca and spray roses with lisianthus embody enduring romance.

The rose, more than any other wedding flower, is synonymous with timeless elegance. A favorite among nearly every client, the mainstay bloom takes on a whole new dimension in a long-stemmed arrangement. Illustrating this sentiment beautifully is Real BB Bride Brienna – she accessorized with creamy white garden roses bound tightly together with a white satin ribbon, which gave the flowers rounded texture while leaving the stems slightly exposed at the end.

More Flowers For Your Consideration
Roses and calla lilies top a deep list of flowers, both traditional and uncommon, that are worthy of the spotlight in a long-stemmed arrangement. Here are some of our favorites: Beloved for their naturally long silhouette, delphiniums are an excellent choice if you lean toward a romantic garden-inspired aesthetic. The exotic allure of the King Protea is undeniable – the giant flowering plant makes a striking mark on its own – include one or two more for high impact. With their delicate butterfly-like petals, cherry blossom branches tied together with a flowing ribbon radiate charm and whimsy. You probably wouldn’t think of the peony as an ideal floral for this type of bouquet, but the long green stems accentuate the flower’s pillowy softness. An all greenery arrangement puts a fresh and minimal take on the idea – mixing the leafy stems of baby blue and parvifolia eucalyptus creates interest through a contrast of height and texture.

Unlike any other design, the long-stemmed wedding bouquet strikes a perfect balance between classic and modern, dramatic and romantic. Whether working with traditional blossoms or an out-of-the box selection, the florist’s secret to making these arrangements stand the test of time is simplicity. Focusing on the singularity of one to three types of blooms in a bouquet, in turn, reveals a radiant portrait of a bride that everyone will be talking about for years to come.
