To say that we were excited when Pantone announced Viva Magenta as its 2023 Color of the Year would be an understatement. The brand describes the shade as “brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.” Simply put, Viva Magenta symbolizes all the love and emotion you feel when you are about to marry your soulmate and start a new life together. Still, it’s a bold color that demands attention, which may make some hesitant about incorporating it into their big day scheme. Does this sound like you? From flowers to attire and accessories to beauty, read on for beautiful ideas on how to use Viva Magenta in your wedding.

Even as vibrant color enthusiasts, we must admit that Pantone’s choice struck us as brazenly extravagant. Learning more about why it was chosen and what it stands for, our first impression of Viva Magenta changed and we began to see it as a far more versatile (and accessible!) color. Rooted in the red family, it’s characterized as a hybrid color that balances between warm and cool. Within the context of wedding blooms, fashion, and style, the possibilities of this alluring shade, which gives way to a stunning spectrum ranging from crimson to fuchsia to purple, are endless.

Dreams of Magenta Wedding Flowers
We associate color with emotion and when considering a wedding floral scheme, magenta impresses the heart with intense passion and romance. Anything but subtle, it dazzles the eye with dramatic opulence. To capture the full scale of Viva Magenta, we suggest using a floral recipe comprised of various shades ranging from deep red, berry, purple to fuchsia and hot pink. When viewed as a whole, the palette will appear to pulsate with rapturous beauty. Imagine saying “I Do” before magnificent floral arrangements featuring jewel-tone Phalaenoposis and dendrobium orchids, hydrangeas, roses, and calla lilies illuminated by glowing candles. The traditional chuppah gets an artistic makeover with a display of asymmetrically arranged roses, calla lilies, dendrobium orchids, delphiniums, dahlias, and amaranthus. For a whimsical spin on bridal blooms, pair petal-rich dahlias, peonies, ranunculuses, mini calla lilies, and clematis with lush greenery. A tailored bouquet of Phalaenopsis and dendrobium orchids and spray roses radiates modern grace. Turning to reception table decor, impress guests with a sky-high centerpiece featuring a fire-work display of peonies, roses, hydrangeas, and Phalaenopsis and dendrobium orchids. Dine in contemporary elegance before a dynamic scene composed of crisp orchids and roses accentuated by glowing hurricane pillar candles set atop towering crystal stands.

Who Says The Bride Has To Wear White? Magenta Wedding Dresses
Just after flowers, our favorite topic to discuss with clients is what they are going to wear. It’s refreshing to see a bride take a risk and step outside the box of traditional wedding white. While too daring for most to wear at the ceremony, magenta is a fabulous color choice to work into your second look for the reception. Dance the night away in a luxurious velvet mini that blends modern draping with playful fringe accents ($476 from Theia). Enter the room in high-drama wearing a shimmering A-Line gown with a sexy one shoulder top, slit leg, and keyhole details ($498 from Mac Duggal). Sass and comfort meet in a swing dress with flirty shoulder bows, a V-neckline, and pockets ($198 from Lilly Pulitzer).

Gorgeous Magenta Bridesmaids Dresses
What’s so great about Viva Magenta in wedding attire is how the shade, because it balances warm and cool, flatters every skin tone. And this fact is sure to receive high marks from your bridesmaids. Dress your leading ladies in a romantic chiffon gown featuring a pleated of-the-shoulder neckline with full circle skirt ($149.95 from David’s Bridal). For a more sultry style, how about a silky maxi dress with a peek-a-boo side slit ($279 from Free People)? Perfectly polished is how to describe a tea-length frock that pairs a classic square neckline with a flowy skirt ($125 from Dessy Group).

Show Your True Colors In Magenta Bridal Shoes
If there is one wardrobe detail that allows a bride to be adventurous without anyone knowing (unless you want them to of course!), it is footwear. We are used to seeing brides take care of their ‘something blue’ by stepping into a pair of colored Manolo Blahnik Hangisi pumps – the iconic wedding shoes look just as glamorous in deep fuchsia satin ($1,125 from Manolo Blahnik). Statement bridal bows aren’t going anywhere soon, so you can’t go wrong strutting the aisle in electric-hued Jimmy Choo shoes featuring a dramatic silhouette accentuated by mesh fascinator bows ($995 from Jimmy Choo). Flirtatious and unashamedly frou-frou, feather embellished kitten heel sandals by Monique Lhuiller are a perfect pick for the after-party ($650 from Monique Lhuillier).
