Bridal Beauty Tips for Every Skin Tone

When Rhianna launched her cosmetics brand, Fenty Beauty, in 2017, she included forty shades of foundation (there are now fifty). This was unprecedented at the time – other leading makeup brands only offered half the amount. In just three years, Fenty Beauty has changed the game regarding what it means to be beauty inclusive, moving other cosmetic lines to vastly expand their selection to customers.

The impact that this movement has had on bridal beauty is apparent. Every woman, regardless if she is into makeup or not, wants to look (and feel) her best on her wedding. Most likely, you will be enlisting a beauty team, with the conversation about wedding makeup commencing well before the big day. It is important that your team understands your skin tone and which products are best for you. To help guide this discussion, we checked in with Megan Glenn, a beauty writer and rep for American Beauty School in New York City. Here, Megan shares essential bridal beauty tips for every skin tone.

A bride wants many things from a wedding dress. As the most important article of clothing she will ever wear, it should make her feel confident, beautiful, and true to her personal style, but with a bit more sparkle and shine for the once in a lifetime occasion. BB Featured Bride Fanta knew she had found ‘the one’ when she stepped into a gown by Martina Liana. “I wanted to feel like a showstopper and my dress did just that!” Here, Fanta reminisces about her ‘say yes to the dress’ moment and bridal personals.

In the age of dating apps, it’s rare to hear about a love story that blossomed from a grade school crush. Darwin caught Fanta’s eye on the first day of their freshman year of high school. “I surveyed the room of my history class for a seat and noted this boy in the back laughing and talking with his peers. He seemed like someone I would enjoy hanging out with,” Fanta remembers. Over the next couple of years, they kept with the same circle of friends, watched each other’s sports events, and even went on a few dates. “However, it wasn’t until senior year when a friend suggested we dress up as twins for senior ‘twin day’ that we really started to hit it off and break the ice,” Fanta says. “I started to learn more about Darwin’s beliefs, his wittiness, and love for weird hats – he even made me wear a matching one on twin day!’” Just a few months before graduation, Darwin finally asked Fanta to be his girlfriend. They were both accepted to the same college program and the rest is history.

From the dress and shoes to hairstyle and manicure, every detail of the bride’s ensemble is an expression of her unique style. Personal expression is the one thing that we regular folk have in common with princesses, A-list actresses, and influencers when it comes to saying ‘I Do.’ Personal expression cannot be bought for a high price tag – it is part of you and comes from within.

While we love talking about gowns and accessories, nothing gets us more excited than the topic of wedding bouquets. We could go on for hours about the fresh, sophisticated romance of Priyanka Chopra’s ribbon accented arrangement. Couples planning a wedding as a health crisis sweeps the globe are experiencing pressures and anxiety like never before. Our hearts go out to each and every one of you. Weddings are as social as events come and making sure people are safe while approaching the ever-evolving situation is challenging to say the least.

While many aspects of life feel out of control right now, you do have control over your health and wellness. “Pandemic or not, wedding planning is a journey you take on together,” Empowerment/Health Coach Colette Lettieri says. “While incredibly overwhelming, try to focus on the fact that nothing is really changing, except possibly the date. You are still marrying the person with whom you are in love. If anything, you are going through that first major crossroads before saying ‘I Do.’ This fact is so important to acknowledge because it solidifies your relationship even more. Start by asking, ‘How can we help each other get through this period together?’”
