Preserved Wedding Bouquets

Preserved-Bouquet-Heather-Gane

Wish your wedding flowers could last forever? We recently discovered the work of Heather Gane, an entrepreneur using state-of-the-art technology to preserve bridal bouquets by freeze-drying, with breathtaking results. We caught up with Heather to get the details on this amazing process and what makes her work stand out.

How did you get started in flower preservation?
I was working in a completely different field when, through some random Google searches, I came upon someone in New Hampshire doing wedding-flower preservation, and I thought it was such a great idea. I went and visited them, and decided I loved it. No one around here did it so there was definitely an opportunity.  I trained in Arizona and Florida and then got started. It was definitely a big commitment. The machinery is very expensive, the training was expensive and it takes a while to really ramp up the business to where you’re actually making money. But I knew it was something I wanted to do so I decided to go for it.

Mood Board: Bridal Bouquet Inspiration

Mood Board - Floral Inspirations White Bridal Bouquet

For a bride-to-be who wants classic, romantic, white, wedding flowers, we created this mood board with an inspiration shot of a very full, rounded bridal bouquet. White ranunculus and garden roses, with warm ivory to cream centers, will give the bouquet sumptuous, petal-dense texture, with enough soft depth to stand out against a white wedding dress.

I wanted to share this particular mood board because it’s a great example of how we, as wedding floral designers, execute ideas. A simple, classic, white, wedding bouquet is always an elegant choice. By putting thought and care into flower selection and an exacting color palette, we are able to elevate a simple concept. The result will be a beautiful, bespoke bridal bouquet, with a look that is both timeless and utterly of-the-moment.

Mood Board: Candlelit Florals for Cocktail Hour

Mood Board-Cocktail-Hour-Floral-Decor

Let this mood board inspire you next time you set your table to entertain. Flowers in candlelight truly create a sense of magic and romance that makes any evening more beautiful and memorable. We love to create groupings of small floral arrangements in glass vases of varying heights. Setting the vases and candle holders on a glass or mirrored surface adds extra glimmer. Small mirrored disks or highly polished metal trays are the way to get this effect at home.

Wedding cocktail hours should feel warm and romantic. Old friends catch up as new flirtations start up! Guests experiences a moment of shared emotion before celebration and dancing. One bride-to-be asked us to create a glowing space for her guests to enjoy cocktail hour, with candles and flowers on every surface. Instead of the classic red roses in the inspiration image, we presented her with a softer, summer color palette. Big, voluptuous coral peonies, palest blush ranunculus, peach Juliet garden roses and peach parrot tulips, with their unusual, ruffled petals, will all look stunning, set aglow in candle light.

We Love: Mini-Succulent Party Favors

Mini-Succulent-Party-Favors

We created these mini-succulent party favors for guests at our Spring Showroom Opening Party and we received so many compliments that we thought we’d share the idea. Simple to make and charming whether presented in a large grouping or singularly at place settings, these make great wedding favors or bridal shower favors. Use fresh succulents planted in soil, instead of cuttings, for party favors that are living reminders of your celebration.

  • Start with individually potted succulents. We chose all lavender-hued rosettes, for a uniform look, but these desert plants grow in a variety of shapes and soft colors. Ordering a collection of mixed succulents is usually a less costly option. Follow your floral supplier’s instructions for watering, then use a soft brush to clean off any stray soil.

Wedding Flower Inspiration From Sweden’s Royal Wedding

Wedding-Flowers-Swedens-Royal-Wedding

Sweden’s Prince Carl Phillip married Sofia Hellqvist this weekend at Stockholm’s Royal Palace. Who can resist a royal wedding? Lavish settings and nearly-unlimited budgets make royal weddings a wonderful source of wedding inspiration. Watching a bride become an actual princess seems to prove that fairy tales do come true. Of course, what transfixed us about Sweden’s big event was the wedding flowers.

Flower walls of vibrant pink blossoms served as backdrops for both the ceremony altar and the head table at the reception. Outside, extravagant, deeper pink flowers decorated stone columns at the front of the palace. The bridal bouquet included cream and coral garden roses with sprigs of myrtle. Cuttings from the same plant have been carried and worn in the hair of Sweden’s royal brides for over a century.
