The weddings we remember most are those that are a true expression of a couple’s love and personality. Allison and Josh let guests know that nuptials were going to be uniquely genuine before a ceremony program was handed out or centerpiece was put on display. “We had our welcome dinner at Shun Lee West the night before,” Allison says. “We tried to weave in both of our backgrounds.” A nod to the bride’s Chinese heritage and groom’s Jewish faith continued through the festive, multi-cultural reception. Here, Allison shares the final chapter in her Real BB wedding story.

In the age of dating apps, so many things need to be in sync for two people to hit it off on the first meeting. Past experiences and expectations are significant factors in this type of situation and both individuals may not be on the same page. Time, in some cases, however, works out the kinks of matchmaking. Allison recalls her first date with Josh. “We initially connected in 2017 on Hinge. We got drinks and the date went well enough that we both seemed open to seeing each other again.” They made plans for a second date at the Comedy Cellar only to have Josh cancel at the last minute. “Josh pretty much ghosted me for the next six months. I had just been on a great first date when he re-emerged. Something told me to give him another chance. It’s part of our story, though a part we kept from our families until it was revealed at our wedding,” she says with a laugh.

Joye and Scott ran in the same circle of friends during college, but they didn’t start dating until after graduation. “I finally caved and let him take me out,” Joye says with a laugh. They clicked immediately and soon realized their connection went far deeper than anything they had experienced during those casual get-togethers at school. “I can honestly say that I wanted Scott in my life for the long-haul from the beginning. He really wasn’t the type to be in a steady relationship. In fact, I was his first serious girlfriend, so I knew that he had the same feelings.”

The establishment of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden over a century ago paralleled the modern development of New York City. As skyscrapers, paved streets, and bridges grew like weeds, it was nearly impossible to find a soft spread of grass or blooming flower garden. Not much has changed to the concrete jungle that has come to define the cityscape. And thankfully, not much has changed to Brooklyn Botanic Garden since opening in 1911. It continues to be a designated green public space where people can come and get lost in the mesmerizing splendor of nature. It is no wonder then that the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is an in-demand venue for couples planning their wedding in New York City.
