To say that 2022 has been an unprecedented year for weddings would be an understatement. It was predicted that more couples would say “I Do” in 2022 than in any other year since 1984. While exact numbers aren’t in yet, our sense is that we’re close to hitting the mark. As wedding florists, we saw firsthand how getting married in a post-pandemic moment influenced our clients’ decisions. Perhaps it had to do with the slowing down and reflection that happened during 2020-2021, but couples were more willing than ever before to take risks and be creative when it came to flowers and decor, attire, food, and entertainment. Expectations about everything being ‘perfect’ gave way to being fully present during this once-in-a-lifetime event. While many of the weddings we are about to highlight look spectacular on an aesthetic level, upon further inspection, you will see that they are speckled with unique and meaningful details that are a sincere expression of the couple’s love and personality. Lauren & Patrick: Autumn Bliss at New York Botanical Garden

Lauren and Patrick met for their first date in October 2017. They met the classic way you meet anyone in NYC…on Bumble. “We were both nervous, so things got off to a rocky start,” Lauren says. “But after I mentioned that I grew up listening to Billy Joel – who Patrick also listened to with his best friends growing up in Cold Spring Harbor – we instantly clicked. The night continued with margaritas and many laughs, exchanging stories about growing up in New York, and a failed attempt to go to karaoke – it was Tuesday and they closed at 10 pm.” On their second date, Patrick told Lauren that he was likely moving to Malaysia in six months for work. “I initially shrugged it off. But that following week, Patrick got a call that he was to transfer in four weeks,” she says. After making the most of the time they had left together, the couple decided to commit to a long-distance relationship. “The next two years were filled with so much travel and adventure…so lots of time in an airport!” Lauren remembers.

Caroline & Ben: An Amalfi Coast Inspired Celebration at Liberty Warehouse

Caroline and Ben first met in 2015 when they both were working for a tech start-up in New York City. “Ben was my on-board buddy. He welcomed me to the company environment and my role within it,” Caroline remembers. They became fast friends, often going to lunch and happy hour together. “We were both in relationships at the time. Everything was work related, but there was always an underlying feeling that this could be more. Those romantic feelings were finally addressed that following summer.” Not yet on the same page of what they wanted in terms of a relationship, they dated on and off for the following six months. In an age where dating apps play instant matchmaker, their long, more traditional courtship comes across as refreshing. “Looking back, this period helped build the relationship that Ben and I have now,” Caroline says. “We had been colleagues, friends, then ‘more than friends.’ By the time we were ready to commit, we knew each other inside and out.”

After Alexandra and Robert’s ceremony, guests gathered for cocktail hour to raise the first of many glasses to congratulate the newlyweds. “The weather had been beautiful all day long,” the bride remembers. “Golden hour was just ending, and the night felt magical. I really couldn’t have imagined a better way to celebrate the start of our marriage.” Here, Alexandra shares the final chapter of their Real BB Wedding story.

Part 4: Reception & Centerpieces

Spirits were high once pre-dinner drinks and hors d’oeuvres concluded. Everyone headed upstairs to The Stone Mill’s dining room where they were welcomed by a warm, enchanted atmosphere. Tables were decorated with low centerpieces featuring roses, ranunculuses, dahlias, lisianthus, oncidium orchids, pieris, and abelia in shades of golden yellow, orange, peach, blush, white, and cream complemented by Italian ruscus and silver dollar eucalyptus. The mix of classic blooms and flowering plants worked to capture Alexandra’s wedding vision of a whimsical garden accentuating the venue’s charmed beauty. “The light pink taper candles added soft elegance, while illuminating the flowers’ texture and dimension. We also trimmed the main ceiling beam with trailing ivy,” she notes.
