The establishment of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden over a century ago paralleled the modern development of New York City. As skyscrapers, paved streets, and bridges grew like weeds, it was nearly impossible to find a soft spread of grass or blooming flower garden. Not much has changed to the concrete jungle that has come to define the cityscape. And thankfully, not much has changed to Brooklyn Botanic Garden since opening in 1911. It continues to be a designated green public space where people can come and get lost in the mesmerizing splendor of nature. It is no wonder then that the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is an in-demand venue for couples planning their wedding in New York City.

Bridesmaid Bouquet Photos: Gather Your Girls

pink bridesmaids bouquets

One wedding photo that always makes us smile is the bridesmaids’ bouquet shot. Being surrounded by best friends and sisters is a beautiful moment for brides and good wedding photographers make sure to capture it. Formal wedding party portraits are classic, and playful or candid pictures are perfect for capturing personalities. But we have a soft spot for pictures of brides and bridesmaids posing close together, holding out bouquets to form a giant cluster of flowers.
We suggest asking your wedding photographer to take three types of bridesmaids photos: classic wedding-party portraits suitable for framing, shots that show off your wedding flowers, such as the clustered poses pictured here, and some wildcard photos of you and your girls being silly. Group leaps and jumps are popular for capturing that exhilarating wedding joy. Faux sexy-serious poses are also entertaining. What you want is wedding photos that reflect the spirit of your particular friendships. But if your group is having trouble letting loose, ask your wedding photographer for suggestions. Being directed to twirl, form a kick-line or throw all bouquets into the air will probably result in lots of laughter. And those may turn out to be your favorites.

“When Mike and I got engaged we looked at a few venues, but I had always known that the Brooklyn Botanic Garden was where I wanted to get married. I grew up in Brooklyn and there was always something special about going to the gardens,” said Tracy. “I was a flower girl there, along with my little sister, when I was ten and she was six.”

Tracy Norton and Michael Fischer were married at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

When Tracy first approached us with her floral design request, we were more than delighted to be able to work with her. She picked out a beautiful array of flowers that suited her unique style, as well as fun and festive summertime wedding colors.  Her look also connected to a very vintage feel, which went perfectly with the ceremony and reception venue at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, as pictured above. Tracy’s bouquets and centerpieces featured a wide-variety of flowers, including peonies, garden roses, spray roses, orchids, succulents, and dusty millers. Her bouquets were lush, vibrant, and made a marvelous complement to her the style of her wedding dress, as well as the look of her bridesmaids, and one adorable flower girl.
