As much as a wedding dress should make a bride look beautiful, it should make her feel beautiful and confident. Scrolling through the looks on Loulette Bride’s website, you get a sense that this sentiment is threaded throughout the collection – these dresses are made to be worn by every type of woman. Behind the Brooklyn-based label is founder Marteal Mayer whose distinct vision and philosophy are evident at first glance. After years of working in fast fashion, Marteal knew everything she didn’t want her independent bridal line to be – exclusive, cookie-cutter, and wasteful. Marteal set out to make bridal wear that she could be proud of – custom pieces that connected deeply with customers on a myriad of levels. Inclusivity, sustainability, and craftsmanship have been the driving forces guiding the label from the very beginning. For Loulette Bride, designing with passion + purpose means not only making beautiful wedding attire, but also using recycled fabrics, donating a portion of sales to a new charity each season, planting a tree for every dress sold, supporting the LGBTQ+ community, and running a fashion mentorship program for students of color.

“I don’t think anyone thought I was going to be in a ballgown. I knew I wanted something that was form-fitting, a little bit sexy while also being traditional,” BB Featured Bride Dayna says. With her vision in sight, she set out to find a dress that encapsulated her sense of style – modern, feminine, and sophisticated. Here, Dayna shares all the details about her striking Pnina Tornai gown and personals.

Part 2: Dress, Bouquet, & Shoes

The process of finding a dress was still full of surprises for Dayna. She recalls, “I started pinning dresses right after we became engaged. I’m a shopping addict but trying on wedding dresses was a totally different experience.” Her mother came in from Boston to help and they devoted an entire weekend to the endeavor. The day before her official appointments, they did a trial run, stopping into one store to try on a few looks. “I recommend this to everyone – it was so helpful to see how the different styles looked and felt.”

“My Grandma is my best friend.” If you read Part 1 where Stefanie talks about getting engaged, you already know how important her Grandma was in initiating her and Mike’s courtship. This was also true when time came for the bride to start looking for what to wear down the aisle – her Grandma was more than happy to step in and move the process along. Here, Stefanie talks about her breathtaking Anne Barge dress and personals.

Part 2: Wedding Dress & Personals
“I wasn’t the type of girl who grew up dreaming of a wedding,” Stefanie says. Her Grandma, however, had been giving a lot of thought to the momentous occasion. “She obsessively watched ‘Say Yes to the Dress,’” Stefanie says with a laugh. “Whenever a dress appeared on the show that she liked, she would hit pause, take a picture of her TV screen and send it to me. And then I would have to research the dress online.” After receiving countless photos this way, one dress finally caught Stefanie’s eye. “When I went into Kleinfeld, I still had NO idea what I wanted but asked my consultant to pull that particular dress my Grandma had sent me. I tried the dress on and knew immediately it was the one for me.”

Finding a dress can prove to be a difficult task for any bride-to-be, even those who have had wedding dreams since childhood. “I am not the best shopper,” Heather says with a laugh. “And I had no idea how to look ‘bridal’ without looking like I was wearing my Grandmother’s crochet.” Any fears of looking like a lace handkerchief were quickly put to rest during a visit to Kleinfeld Bridal. Here, Heather talks about her breathtaking Pronovias dress and bridal personals.

Part 2: Wedding Dress & Personals

With no clear idea of what to wear down the aisle, Heather enlisted the people whose opinion she trusted most for guidance. Everyone met for her appointment at Kleinfeld and Heather explained what she wanted and didn’t want to the stylist. After trying on about eight dresses, she had her “say yes to the dress” moment. She looks back, “As soon as I put my leg in the gown, I knew it was ‘the one.’ I felt like myself. When I walked out of the dressing room, they all confirmed what I already knew. And that was it!”
