If you are in the midst of planning a wedding, chances are you have put together a To-Do list laying out in detail all that needs to get done before the big event. To-Do lists help organize, prioritize, and track progress. However, when faced with a huge project, we often leave the hardest tasks to the last minute. Doing the easiest, least-time consuming things first gives a sense of accomplishment – until it doesn’t. Dread of what’s to come mounts, becoming heavier as the weeks go by.

You don’t have to be the ‘resolutions’ type to use January 1st as the day to take stock of all that has happened in your life during the previous twelve months. For us, 2021 was marked by growth, new experiences, and gratitude. After an extremely tumultuous 2020, we joined fellow vendors in wading back into the waters of wedding planning and production. Many of us can attest that our first impressions of romance came from the fantastical animated films by Disney. But very few can say that Disney played a direct role in finding their true love. Christina and Ben both have acting backgrounds and met while working as performers for Disney Cruise Lines. Getting into character day in, day out in such close quarters, close bonds with colleagues inevitably form. Christina looks back at that exciting time when their relationship was transitioning from a working friendship to something more and fondly says, “I guess you can truly say, ‘it all started with a mouse.’”

The establishment of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden over a century ago paralleled the modern development of New York City. As skyscrapers, paved streets, and bridges grew like weeds, it was nearly impossible to find a soft spread of grass or blooming flower garden. Not much has changed to the concrete jungle that has come to define the cityscape. And thankfully, not much has changed to Brooklyn Botanic Garden since opening in 1911. It continues to be a designated green public space where people can come and get lost in the mesmerizing splendor of nature. It is no wonder then that the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is an in-demand venue for couples planning their wedding in New York City.

Guests were buzzing after Cara and Vince’s exchanged vows. Not only had they just witnessed a beautiful ceremony, but their happy hour menu included a strongly caffeinated drink selection. “Vince is Italian and takes his coffee very seriously. He hired Top Hat Espresso to serve an array of coffee and gelato,” the bride says. “Everyone was really happy. It was a unique way to start the second part of our wedding.” Here, Cara shares the final chapter in her Real BB Wedding story.

Reception, Centerpieces, and Entertainment

After enjoying cocktails and coffee, guests gathered into the reception space where they were greeted with a breathtaking scene. Trimmed with twinkling lights, the clear top tent gave way to the dark sky above, underscoring the enchanted atmosphere all around. The tablescape featured various centerpieces. Simple yet sophisticated, the first style was composed of white Phalaenopsis orchids illuminated by stemmed glass candles. “The orchid centerpieces were my favorite,” Cara remarks. “They made the tables pop with such elegance.” The second style was composed of an exquisite trio of cluster arrangements showcasing burgundy ascot and baccara roses and cream majolica spray roses. Cara, who is Irish and grew up Irish dancing, made the table signs, paying homage to her and Vincent’s family heritages. “Blending the two countries, the tables were named after our favorite places, some we have traveled to and some we hope to visit, in Ireland and Italy.”
