As told to Grace Ormond Wedding Style, fate couldn’t keep this lovely couple apart, even if it took a couple tries! Ina and Kevin were both hard-working and career focused individuals looking for love. They actually matched on Match.com, but that’s not how these two lovebirds came together. Ina actually cancelled her Match subscription before they met! Unbeknownst to her, a mutual friend of theirs had mentioned Kevin to Ina, and said he’d love to meet her. After checking out his megawatt smile on Facebook, she realized that he was the same handsome man whose profile she had seen on her account!
Mother nature brought Ina and Kevin together. After texting back and forth for a couple weeks, Hurricane Sandy hit Manhattan, leaving Ina without power or water! When her gym reopened, Ina let Kevin know her excitement of finally being able to take a shower. Kevin met Ina at her Equinox, where she was “sweaty, makeupless and greasy-haired” and the couple enjoyed their first date at Chipotle. Their proposal was just as unassuming and serendipitous. Ina and Kevin had purchased a beautiful home together on the Upper East Side, and while out on a morning jog, he asked Ina to open her purse and look inside. Upon seeing the little red Cartier box in her purse, she exclaimed “Yes!” before Kevin had the chance to drop on one knee! Smiling, he got on one knee to propose, and they were congratulated by a New York pigeon. One engagement ring, one happy couple, and a “gift” from a pigeon later, Ina and Kevin were officially engaged.
Ina and Kevin’s traditional church ceremony at St. Ignatius Loyola Church was followed by a gorgeous reception at the Park Hyatt. She walked down the aisle in a beautiful long-sleeved Alon Livne gown holding a dimensional and textured white bouquet featuring white garden roses, cream vendela roses, white spray roses, white ranunculus and white Phalaenopsis Orchids. The Chinese-Korean couple honored their heritage with a traditional wedding tea ceremony in which Ina donned a gorgeous red Lanvin dress.
After the ceremony, guests headed to the lavish Park Hyatt for the reception. The new hotel’s modern ballroom is the perfect mix of Art Deco and contemporary elegance. With backlit onyx walls, the all-white room radiates with warmth. Ina and Kevin opted for a set of beautifully calligraphed mirrors as their seating chart. We added mixed height clustered arrangements next to the mirror, featuring ivory spray roses, cream vendela roses and white hydrangea with pillar and floating candles to warmly welcome guests.
Jaws dropped as everyone entered the Onyx room. In the middle of the dance floor was a dramatic 8-foot floral chandelier. This herculean structure was composed with over 1000 blooms including white hydrangea, cream vendela roses, white stock and white dendrobium orchids. The chandelier was magically lit with hanging bubble terrariums with tea lights inside.
The reception featured two centerpiece styles for the round and rectangular tables, as well as a sweetheart table. Round tables received a gorgeous high centerpiece suspended on glass pedestal vases. The rounded arrangements featured hydrangea, cream vendela roses, ivory spray roses and white Phalaenopsis orchids, illuminated by twinkling votive candles. Rectangular tables were decorated with a multilayered tablescape of high, medium and low centerpieces using the same flowers. Guests enjoyed a beautiful, multi-tiered floral cake by Ron Ben-Israel and danced the night away under the lush floral chandelier.
Ina and Kevin proved that all-white weddings can have gorgeous texture and dimension by using a small variety of blooms in various ways throughout the reception space. We loved this elegant couple’s take on a classic wedding palette by keeping it modern and fresh!
